Sick & Slightly Stressed

I have anxiety about being sick. Not about getting a cold, but about being physically ill, as in vomiting. I tell my husband he'll have a heck of a time ever convincing me to get pregnant. In all seriousness, whenever I get the slightest notion that I am getting sick, I get really anxious. I get shaky and panicky, which only makes matters worse. The last time I went to the doctor, I told him about this and he prescribed me some medicine to take whenever that happens.

On Tuesday, on my way to work, I realized I had a bladder infection. Anyone who's ever had one knows the symptoms, and you know immediately when you have one. Nothing else feels like that. The doctor couldn't fit me in until Wednesday at 2:30. So on my way home from work, I stopped by the drug store to get some over-the-counter meds to hold me over until I could get antibiotics.

At 3 am on Wed morning, I woke up not feeling well at all. I was sweaty and lightheaded and the anxiety began. So I went downstairs and took one of those tiny little pills the doctor gave me. Within 15 minutes, I was calmed down and fell right back asleep. It was like magic! The problem was that I slept right through my alarm. I woke up at 7 feeling so groggy that there was no way I could have driven to work. I had to call in sick. My doctor's appointment was at 2:30, so I told him what happened and he said to take just half a pill next time, but the good news was that it worked. He gave me meds for the bladder infection as well, which now feels much better.

I'm a little concerned about the cookout, and how little time we have to prepare! We spent last night doing yardwork. I planted more impatiens and vincas, and Scott planted Azaleas. I wanted to get some rose bushes, but we couldn't agree on what kind. I want big, pretty, full roses and he wants a shrub, which doesn't have as pretty of roses. Nonetheless, it looks like we are going to have beautiful weather for the cookout - sunny and 75!

OH! And adding to the bit about being sick - I was in the sun for MAYBE 30 minutes at the nursery looking at rosebushes, and when I got home, I had a sunrash all up and down my right arm. This is not the first time I've gotten it, but its one of the worst cases I've had. I looked into this, and it appears I have PMLE (Polymorphic light eruption) which is an allergy to the sun which begins in young adulthood. Scientists can't explain it, but you usually "grow out" of it by age 40. At least I have something to look forward to when I turn 40!

  1. Eek about the anxiety about getting sick. Must be awful.

Hope your sun rash has cleared up.
